About Mission Meadows
A COMMUNITY GARDEN
Our mission is to cultivate a sustainable future by nurturing the land and the community it sustains. Our vision is a world where gardens bloom with abundance, communities thrive in harmony with nature, and the land nourishes everyone who tends it.
Our Mission & Vision
Our story
Mission Meadows exists because one woman decided a piece of land should belong to the neighborhood, not just to her.
The property was originally farmed by Alpha Moonie, a local raspberry farmer, who donated it to Modern Electric with the wish that it be used for the good of the surrounding community. Modern Electric has honored that wish ever since, generously allowing Mission Meadows Community Garden to use the land at no cost — a gift, passed from one generous hand to the next, that now serves the entire Mission Park neighborhood.
The garden first took root in the 2000s, and after a period of dormancy, was revived in 2021 by a new group of volunteers determined to bring the space back to life. Today, that revival has grown into a full nonprofit organization stewarding the Market Garden, Food Forest, Flower Mission, rentable garden beds, and hands-on classes through the Garden School.
We exist to carry Alpha Moonie's original gift forward — for this generation of the Mission Park neighborhood, and the next.
About the Garden
We are a community space that offers opportunities for individual endeavors as well as communal collaborations in our Food Forest, Market Garden and You-Pick Flower Garden. We are a non-profit organization. We are united by a shared love for plants and sustainable practices. We offer an inviting environment to foster growth and personal development.
What We Do
As a nonprofit, we run our programs to serve the whole community — not for profit, but for shared benefit:
The Market Garden — Plant. Propagate. Provide. We grow fresh produce for the community.
Garden Plots — Rows and raised beds available for rent by the season, for neighbors who want their own space to grow.
The Flower Mission — Sow. Grow. Give. A you-pick flower garden open to the public.
The Food Forest — A growing orchard of perennial guilds, planted for the long-term benefit of the land and everyone who visits it.
The Garden School — Classes, workshops, and patio events where people learn, demonstrate, and develop new skills.
Support Us
Mission Meadows only exists because of gifts — first Alpa Moonie's, then Modern Electric's, and now the volunteers, donors, and neighbors who keep it growing. As a 501(c)(3), your tax-deductible donation and your time as a volunteer are what carry that legacy forward.
